Abstract:
On Studying effect of schistosomal infection and niridazole the following results have been observed.Effect of schistosomal infection :The rate of gluconeogesis from pyruvate, succinate and ∞ -Ketoglutarate has not been affected. The infcetion significantly decreased the rate of oxidation of different Krebs cycle intermediates e.g. Succinate, citrate, pyruvate and pyruvate, succinate and]The Effect of niridazole on some parameters of carbohydrate metabolisrn of the parasitized host Viz rate of glycolysis , rate of gluconeogenesis from dIfferent subsstrates and rate of oxidation of different substrates of Krebs cycle .∞from the previois findings, one may conclude that niridozole when administered at a . therapeutic level ( 100mg/Kg for 5 and 10 days )did not intensify the inhibition of some oxido-reduetases provoked by schistosomal infection . it was found to revert to a nearly normal level some of the observed inhibitions . at low dosage level, it stimulates the rate of gluconeogenesis . Such effects seem to be related to the presence of mctabolites rather than to the parent drug
