Genus papaver is one of the most imporbant genera belonging to the family Papaveraceae. Amongst the plants of tbis genus are averoninifeim L., verrhoeas L. and prbraoteatum Lindi L and perbraoteat Tendl are narcotic alkaloids oontaixthig plants and their culti vation are prohibitea in Egypt On the other hand, pycrI,, is of common occurrence and grows in different localities of Egypt as an ornamental plant, The aim of the present .work is to carry out a pharmacognostical study of the previousJ.y mentioned species, viz, rpife rum L., verzhoeas L • and per braoteatwn lindi. at different stages of theix growth for identification and differentiation.I.
