Left Atrial Reservoir Function in Symptomatic Versus Asymptomatic Patients with Mitral Stenosis

The present study aimed to to evaluate LA reservoir by volumetric echocardiographic analysis in patients with mitral stenosis and relate this to the development of symptoms in an attempt to assess the predictive value of the change of LA reservoir for the occurance of symptoms in those patients.The study included 30 patients with isolated moderate Mitral stenosis (MS) with ( MVA mitral valve area = 1.0 to 1.5 cm2 ), They were classified into two groups:Group A (symptomatic patients):It included 15 patients;2 males and 13 females. Age ranged from 15 to 55 years with mean ± SD of 36.20±11.25.Group B ( Asymptomatic patients):It included 15 patients; 6 males and 9 females.
