Abstract:
The aim of this study is to assess the value of combined serum soluble endoglin measurement with uterine artery Doppler in predicting Preeclampsia with or without intrauterine growth restriction. Methods: 80 pregnant women were included in this study:(20) cases normal (control) and (20) cases with mild Preeclampsia and (20) cases with severe Preeclampsia without IUGR and (20) cases with severe Preeclampsia with IUGR.Maternal serum from each case was taken and sent for laboratory assessment of endoglin and urine examination and uterine artery Doppler was done for each case. Results: revealed that higher endoglin level in preeclamptic mothers compared to normal group was noticed with statistically highly significant difference in between and increased Doppler data. Conclusion: Our results indicate that elevated serum sEng levels in third trimester pregnancies with abnormal uterine perfusion are associated with subsequent pregnancy complications (Preeclampsia and IUGR). Therefore, we can say that the concurrent measurement of uterine perfusion and angiogenic factors allows more efficient prediction of IUGR in preeclampsia.
