Abstract:
Acute coronary syndrome remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It describes a spectrum of clinical syndromes ranging from unstable angina (UA) and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) to ST-elevation myocadial infarction (STEMI). There are many risk factors for coronary artery disease. Objectives: Aim of our study is to show relationship between uric acid level and prescence and severity of coronary artery disease also relation between uric acid level and left ventricular systolic functionPatients and methods: Our study include 200 patients presented with acute coronary syndrome who were refered for coronary angiography. Statistical analysis was done to detect the relationship between level of uric acid and severity of cronary artery disease and left ventricular systolic functionResults: The present study showed highly significant relation between uric acid level and severity of coronary artey disease represented by Gensini score (p < 0.001). Also, there is significant relation between level of uric acid and multivessel affection. Our study showed no significant relation between level of uric acid and level and left ventricular systolic function. Conclusion: There is a growing evidence that elevated serum uric acid levels is associated with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease and there is a significant relationship between high levels of uric acid and severity of coronary artery disease and also number of vessel affected . High uric acid levels also was significantly related to some risk factors of coronary heart disease as diabetes and hypertension but it still of debate if uric acid is independently related to CAD or it exerts its effect through its assosciation with these risk factors. Uric acid level has no significant relation to left ventricular systolic function.
