Abstract:
.Aim of the Work :1- To assess of the prevalence of physical illness in psychiatric patients2.To assess quality of life and disability in psychiatric patients with physical illness.Medical comorbidity in those with established mental illness is an area of great concern (Pincus et al., 2007). The combination of medical and psychiatric illness has been linked with increased functional and occupational disability (Warner, 2006) and poorer quality of life (Baune et al., 2007) compared with those with one diagnosis alone. Medical illness affects more than half of those with mental illness, particularly in older people (Aragones et al., 2007). Comorbid physical illness dramatically reduces life expectancy; epidemiological studies report 20-25 years earlier mortality in schizophrenia and 10-15 years in bipolar disorder (Roshanaei-Moghaddam & Katon, 2009).Increases in life expectancy and improvements in medical technology in the industrialized nations have shifted the focus of medical care from infectious to chronic diseases (Symonds et al., 2002).
