Abstract:
Warts are one of the most common skin diseases occurring at any age, but incidence has been found to be higher in children (20%), peaking in adolescence.Despite the availability of various treatment modalities, recurrences, relapses, and the recalcitrant nature of warts are common because of the lack of specific antiviral medications against warts. Secondary infection, pain and scar are common with all traditional modalities of therapy.Alternatively, use oral retinoids especially acitretin, a synthetic compound of the retinoid, 2nd generation, seems to be a promising modality. This is because it has lesser side effects and apart from being a potent immunomodulator, biological therapy, is also capable of affecting epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation.
