Abstract:
Diabetes Mellitus is a condition frequently found among hospitalized patients. No one can deny that glycemic control among hospitalized patients is important for reducing morbidity & mortalityIt is known also that, in severely ill hospitalized patients, counter regulatory hormones such as [glucagon, cortisol, epinephrine and growth hormones] are stimulated. In addition to, disruption in the usual daily activities and dietary intake play an important role in the control of diabetic stayThe optimal glucose range for patients with different medical diseases is more debatable, a responsible goal may be high up to 180mg/dlInsulin resistance & insulin secretory capacity in hospitalized patients are affected by numerous factors, including, seventy of illness medications (glucocorticoids,) in addition to patient diet in hospital. So, a variety of factors may be encountered in diabetic control among hospitalized patientsThe prognosis and the state of the outcome depend on largely on the type of diabetic patients as well as to those who are liable to develop diabetes mellitus as a complication of their illnessQuality of life is important for people with diabetes mellitus as well as their healthcare providers. Some studies reported positive association between the quality of life and good glycemic control
