Abstract:
Most people infected with Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) develop a chronic infection with persistent viraemia and are at risk of progressive liver damage.Chronic HCV and HBV infection is a major risk factor for HCC.The aim of our the work was to investigate serum prealbumin levels in patients with HCV, HBV, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to asses the severity for determination of liver statusA total of 100 subjects were included in the study and were assigned to the following 3 groups:Group I: It included 20 healthy subjects as a control group.Group II: it included 60 patients with liver cirrhosis, it was further categorized according to Child Pugh classification (grading) into three subgroups:• Group II a: It included 20 Child grade A patients.• Group II b: It included 20 Child grade B patients.• Group II c: It included 20 Child grade C patients.Group III: It included 20 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. 15 patients with cirrhotic liver and 5 patients with normally apparent liver, detected by ultrasound.The patients were subjected to the following:• Full history taking and physical examination.
