pupillary capture of a posterior chamber IOL occurs when part or all of the optic lies in front of the iris while the haptics remain behind the iris.Patients and methods : We performed a prospective study of pupillary capture (PC) in 230 patients (244 eyes) who implanted with posterior chamber IOLs.The subjects comprised 109 eyes with senile cataract (group 1- > ranged in age from 55 to 73 years), And 135 with congenital, developmental or traumatic cataracty (group 2 -> ranged in age from 8 to 15 years).Results : In this study the incidence of pupillary capture was 3.6% in senile cataract and it was 24.4% in children with congenital, development or traumatic cataract.Discussion : As regard the predisposing factors the younger age of the patients (48.6% of cases with pupillary capture were younger than 10 years) is the most important predisposing factor followed by poor compliance (43.2%), difficult surgery and severe post operative iritis (35.1% for each), preoperative iritis (21.6%), posterior synaechiae preoperatively (18.9%) prior glaucoma surgery (13.5%), diabetes (8.1%) and lastly wound leakage (2.7%).
