Abstract:
Coagulase negative staphylococci are normal skin commensals and are frequently isolated from clinical speciemens. CoNS are a major cause of sepsis in the neonatal intensive care unit. Also CoNS were isolated from cases suffering from eye diseases as conjunctivitis and keratitis. We evaluated that ica operon and biofilm production are associated with CoNS diseases. The biofilm production was examined using qualitative congo red agar (CRA), and the presence of genes icaA, icaD was determined by PCR. Slime positive isolates were multidrug resistant as compared to slime negative isolates.
