Abstract:
ITP is the most common bleeding disorder of childhood acvompanied by many controversies in the diagnosis and management. We aimed to report our experience with such heterogeneous diseaseProcedure: Retrospective study of medical records of 202 children with itp in pediatric department¸ Zagazig university hospital between January 2005 and December 2010 was doneResults: The mean age of presentation was 4.5 ± 2.9 years. Male to female ratio was 1.1: 1. 57.9% of patients had preceding infection. Only 2 cases developed Intracranial hemorrhage. Higher incidence of cases was reported in spring and winter. 20% of cases were managed conservatively. Steroids were the main first line treatment and it had nearly equal response to IVIG. The rate of chronic ITP was 17.8% and chronic ITP was more common in older children specially in females absence of preceding URTI and low response to first line therapy were predictors of chronic ITP.
