Abstract:
With dialysis and renal transplantation as long-term renal replacement therapy (RRT), the prognosis of end stage renal failure in children has been completely changed. The main aims of dialysis treatment are to prolong patient survival, reduce morbidity and improve quality of life. Objective: The aim of this study is to assess adequacy of hemodilalysis in pediatric patients on regular hemodialysis in Zagzig pediatric nephrodialysis unit. Methods: This study was carried out in Zagzig pediatric nephrodialysis unit. It included 31 patients with chronic renal failure on regular hemodialysis. The studied group include: 18 female and 13 male their ages ranged from 6 to 20 years. One male patient refused sharing in the study again after his first blood sample lost. They were regularly hemodialyzed 3 times weekly and 2 to 4 hours per session and their pump rate ranged from 180 to 200 ml\minute. All of them have arteriovenous fistula. Results: We found highly significant positive correlation between duration of dialysis session and kt\v. Longer dialysis duration may be beneficial in several ways: improved tolerability of the treatment (primarily the result of slower UFR), greater removal of uremic toxins, particularly middle molecules, better control of blood pressure, and better volume management. Conclusion: In our study we could not compare high flux and low flux dialyzer effect on kt\v because we use low flux dialyzer as it’s the only dialyzer available in our unit.
