Abstract:
The aim of this work was to evaluate the therapeutic effects of zinc supplementation when given with oral rehydration solutions to children with acute diarrhea on the duration and severity of diarrheaThis study was conducted on 200 patients with acute diarrhea. The patients were hospitalized in Pediatric department of Faqous Hospital.This study included children aged two months to five years, with more than three unformed stools in the prior 24 hours, and are able to accept oral fluids or feeds.The study included 2 groups:1- The first group included 100 patients with acute diarrhea that were given oral rehydration salts alone. They were 64 male and 36 female their ages ranged from 5–59 month with a mean 1.69 ± 13.6 month.2- The second group included 100 patients with acute diarrhea that were given oral rehydration salts and zinc. They were 64 male and 36 female their ages ranged from 2–49 month with a mean 14.5±10.6 month
