Topical vitamin k in treatment of dark circles around the eyes

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of topical application of vitamin K1 (phytonadione) in treatment of dark circles around the eye .Our study was a comparative study that was conducted on Twenty adult patients having periorbital dark circles were recruited from outpatient clinic of dermatology department of Zagazig Hospital. The patients included sixteen females and four males with age ranging from 16 to 55 years. Patients had moderate to advanced periorbital dark circles and didn’t take any medication during the study. Patient with atopic dermatitis were excluded, A careful history was taken from every patient, A careful physical examination was carried and for treatment Two different creams were prepared in the department of pharmaceutics, faculty of pharmacy , Zagazig university . The medicated cream was prepared to be oily w/o cream composed of phytonadione2%, retinol 0.1%, vitamine E 0.1% and vitamin C 0.1%,While the control formulation was prepared containing all vitamins except phytonadione and used for comparison. Creams were applied topically twice daily to the periorbital region for 8 weeks. The medicated cream was applied to the right eye and the control one is applied to the left eye.
