Abstract:
hypotonia is an impairment of the ability to sustain postural control and movement against gravity. Thus, floppy infants exhibit poor control of movement, delayed motor skills, and hypotonic motor movement patterns. Careful neurological examination should, in most cases, localize the site of the lesion whether its Upper Motor Neuron (UMN) or Lower Motor Neuron (LMN) unit .ProcedureA retrospective analysis was performed on 100 cases of infant presented with hypotonia in Neurology Unit, Pediatric Department, Zagazig University Hospitals from December 2009 to December 2010. including Full history taking , Complete clinical examination , Neurological examination , Laboratory investigation and Neuro-imaging investigation in the form of MRI brain .Resultsneuroimaging study mainly cranial MRI contributes to final diagnosis in about 51.2% of suspecting central hypotonia while peripheral hypotonia confirmed by neurological history, examination and EMG study .Conclusion• Neuroimaging is avaluable tool for detecting central nervous system abnormalites magnetic resonance can delinate structural malformation, neuronal migrational defects and brain atrophic change and contribute to final diagnosis.
