Assessment of the relation between atrial fibrillation and microalbumniuria in hypertensive patients.Background: AF is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. It is important to detect AF at an early stage and to search for new pathophysiological pathways to intervene. We hypothesized that microalbuminuria, a marker of generalized vascular damage and inflammation, is associated with AF.Aim of the work: to study the relationship between atrial fibrillation and microalbuminuria .Patients and Methods: 50 hypertensive patients without history of AF and 50 hypertensive patients with history of AF were included. Estimated GFR and albumin excretion rate in the urine was measured for every patient.Results: The presence MAU was found to be significantly higher in patients with history AF. Elevated heart rate and decreased eGFR were also found to be strongly related to prevalence of MAU in the study population.Conclusion: The prevalence of MAU in hypertensive patients with other cardiovascular risk factors is associated with elevated heart rate and significantly higher in patients with history of AF.
