Percutaneous Pinning after Closed Reduction of Supracondylar Humerus Fracture in Children in Gaza City Hospital

Abstract:
supracondylar fractures are the most common fractures in the area of elbow in children . The purpose of this study is to evaluate retrospectively the results and incidence of supracondylar fracture humerus in children treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning.In the orthopedic department at Shifa Hospital – Gaza, Palestine, since 2007 through 2010, there were 2500 children with fractures of upper limbs. 400 children of them were suffered from supracondylar fractures of the humerus.There were grading of the fracture according to Garteland’s classification, Flexion type I in the 260 cases, Flexion type II in the 80 cases, and Flexion type III in the 60 cases. There were 260 cases with type I was treated by posterior slab, and 40 cases with open fractures type (II, IIIa) according to Gustelo-Anderson these were not included in our study.Closed reduction trials in displaced 100 cases, the total cases treated by closed reduction percutaneous pinning was 50 cases, there were 2 groups of patients according to K-wire fixation group I there were 28 patients fixed with two lateral pins, and group II 22 patients fixed with crossed medial and lateral pins.The clinical results were assessed according to the Flynn criteria, there were thirty eight patients gave excellent results, eleven patients gave good results, and one patient gave poor result.
