Abstract:
modern complication rates after TURP range from 15-18%, the most common problems were failure to void (6.5%), anemia secondary to blood loss requiring a transfusion (3.9%), and urinary clot retention (3.3%) m, Overall 30-day mortality rates from transurethral prostate surgery have been decreasing steadily through the 20th century. In the 1930s, the reported 30-day mortality rate following TURP surgery was 5%, with an overall mortality rate of 25% reported in 1932. This DROPped to 2.5% by the early 1960s, 1.3% by the mid-1970s, and 0.2% by 1990. The 90-day mortality rate after TURP is 1.18-1.5%.The common cause of mortality following TURP is sepsis.Despite the introduction of alternative techniques, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) still represents the gold standard in the operative management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)TURP underwent significant technical improvements during the last decade with major impact on the incidence of intra- and postoperative complications. we focused on actual TURP practices with the intention to update the status, technical advancement, prevention, and management of complications.
