EEG Changes and serum level of interlukin-1 beta in different types of febrile seizures

Abstract:
The study aim to know the role of Il-1 Beta levels in the pathogenesis of febrile seizures through comparing its level in peripheral blood serum of children with febrile seizures with those of children with febrile illnesses without seizures (as a control) and also the role of EEG as a diagnostic tool in febrile seizure.The present study was conducted on 35 patients with febrile seizure who presented to the reception room of the Pediatric department in Al-Agoza hospital in the period from Feb. 2010 to Feb. 2011. They were 24 males and 11 females with a mean(SD) age of 30(±14.9) months. A control group of 35 children (17 males and 18 females) with a mean(SD) age of 27.2 (±18.1) months. Both groups did not differ by sex, age, type ofinfection, duration of fever before blood sample or degree of fever when hospitalized.
