Abstract:
The nail is an apparatus that provides a strong keratinous plate over the dorsal surface of each digit. Nail abnormalities can include defects of the nail itself, as well as more subtle findings that may point to a dermatologic or a systemic disease. This study was carried out in dermatology out-patient clinic and other in patient clinics over 18 months. Complete history, general examination, dermatologic examination, complete nail examination and laboratory investigations were done to all cases. The patients were divided into two groups; dermatologic group (group I) and systemic group (group II). Group I cases were statistically analyzed as regards; age, sex, season and finger nail &toe nail distributions. The clinical distribution of different nail changes in dermatologic diseases was studied. Group (II) cases were statistically analyzed as regards; age, sex. The studied systemic diseases associated with nail changes compared with others without nail changes The clinical distribution of different nail changes in systemic diseases was also studied. Regarding the frequency of the studied dermatologic diseases associated with nail changes, onychomycosis was the first in frequency while, chronic renal failure was the first in frequency among
