Abstract:
Local anesthesia techniques were popularized early in the history of surgery with the advantage of injectable nerve blocking agents. Local anesthesia was preferred in all cases that it was applicable due to the significant risks associated with general anesthesia. Many procedures performed today under general anesthesia, such as tonsillectomy, rhinoplasty, and even bronchoscopy, were performed under local anesthesia to avoid the risks of general anesthesia.Local anesthetics provide a reversible regional loss of sensation. Local anesthetics reduce pain, thereby facilitating surgical procedures. Differing properties of local anesthetics should be known in detail by the anesthetist and the operative surgeon. Toxic doses, duration of action, and side effects should be reviewed before using local anesthetics.Regional anesthetic techniques are determined by knowledge the anatomy of the course of the sensory nerves in the head and neck and the nature of the planned surgery..
