Abstract:
This essay aims to review the different treatmentmodalities of pilonidal sinus disease with emphasis on the recenttrends evolving in this important surgical condition.Pilonidal sinus is a common disabling and acquireddisease. The disease affects mainly young adults and themost important factors are the existence of a deep natalcleft and the presence of hair within the cleft. Thedisease presents as an acute, a chronic pilonidal abscessor recurrent pilonidal disease. Despite the controversyabout the best surgical technique, the ideal one should besimple, not require a prolonged hospital stay, lowrecurrence rate, low complication rate and minimal pain,and should minimize financial cost to the community andto the patient.
