Abstract:
Drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an important global threat, with a median of 9.9% of M tuberculosis strains now resistant to at least one drug in 35 countries or regions (Saeed et al., 2009).WHO, (1999) report showed that a well-functioning TB-control program was associated with a low prevalence of MDR-TB and that previous anti-TB therapy was a strong predictor of drug resistance.Aim of the work was to scan drug sensitivity in a group of retreatment cases to elucidate the feasibility of the current national guidelines. This study was carried out on retreatment cases of pulmonary tuberculosis during the period from January 2006 to December 2009 at Abbasia Chest Hospital. The study included a total number of 285 patients were classified into two groups:Group (A):Included 177 cases of retreatment pulmonary tuberculosis during the period from January 2006-December 2007.They were 143 males & 34 females with age range 20-45 yearsGroup (B):Included 108 cases of retreatment pulmonary tuberculosis during the period from January 2008- December 2009.They were 101 males&7 females with age range 20-45 years.
