Cisplatin, Fluorouracil, and Leucovorin Induction Chemotherapy Followed by Concurrent Cisplatin Chemoradiotherapy for Patients with locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancer

Abstract:
The present study was planned to evaluate efficacy and toxicity of induction chemotherapy cisplatin, fluorouracil, and leucovorin followed by concurrent cisplatin chemo radiotherapy for patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck cancer.The study included 30 patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck treated in Clinical Oncology Department, Zagazig University Hospital between May 2009 and September2010 inclusiveTreatment prtocol:All patients were treated Cisplatin 20 mg/m2/d diluted in 500 cm saline 0.9% , 5 Flurouracil FU 800 mg/m2/d diluted in 500 cm glucose 5%, and leucovorin 500mg/m2/d diluted in 500 cm glucose 5% had been administered via intra venous infusion over 2 hours for 4 days (PFL), and administered every 28 days for two cycles, followed by concurrent chemo radiotherapy with cisplatin (100 mg/m2/d that had been administrated intravenously over one hour on irradiation days 1 and 22 and began on approximately day 28 of the second cycle of chemotherapy and had been given half an hour before radiotherapy session.
