Simple urine metabolic screening in cases of Failure to thrive of unknown cause

The present study was conducted at the Pediatric Departments of Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University from November 2008 to January 2010.Infants and children presenting with FTT that does not respond to increase energy intake and those present with either metabolic or neurological disturbances, convulsions, mental retardation, persistent vomiting, jaundice, organomegaly, dysmorphic skeletal features, regression of milestones, unusual odour of urine were included in the study. Detailed history regarding parental consanguinity and sibling deaths, birth history and postnatal development of the child was recorded.
