Abstract:
Mechanical SBO is the most frequently encountered surgical disorder of the small intestine. Intra-abdominal adhesions are the major etiologic factor of SBO. Less prevalent etiologies include hernias and Crohn’s disease. SBO is uncommonly caused by primary small intestinal neoplasms (Ray et al., 1998 & Whang et al., 2005).Laparoscopy can serve as a good diagnostic and therapeutic tool for management of SBO. Laparoscopic adhesiolysis appears to be a good method for treatment of patients with recurrent attacks of uncomplicated adhesive SBO. Laparoscopic approach decreases the duration of hospital stay and the complication rate.
