Abstract:
Exhaustion of the ovaries and the decline in the level of estradiol is not a problem of fertility which may be desired by few, but the estrogens have been accorded central roles in the normal function of the cardiovascular, skeletal, and central nervous and immune systems. The conventional hormonal replacement therapy has shown many side effects as increasing the risk of both endometrial and breast cancer. The researches led to the new group known as’ ”Selective Estrogen receptors modulators’’ which may replace estrogen without fear of any ’side effects. However, these drugs also have many estrogenic effects depending on the tissue and gene, and they are more appropriately called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). SERMs binds (ER) alter receptor confirmation, and facilitate binding of co regulatory proteins that activate or repress transcriptional activation of estrogen target genes.
