Abstract:
Alopecia areata is an organ specific autoimmune hair loss caused by perifollicular T-cell infiltrate. We conducted a randomized uncontrolled study of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide, mesotherapy cocktail, topical clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment, azelaic acid 20% cream, adapalene 0.1% gel and combination of calcipotriol & betamethasone dipropionate ointment. Intralesional triamcinolone acetonide and mesotherapy group showed a statically significant improvement (60% and 40% respectively) than clobetasol propionate, adapalene and calcipotriol & betamethasone dipropionate ointment groups (30%, 30% and 10% respectively). from these results we concluded that intralesional steroid is still the most effective therapy for limited variant of alopecia areata.
