Abstract:
AbstractThis work was designed to study biomarkers that potentially might provide a basis for the development of improved diagnostic tests for early renal involvement in type 2 DM. This was done by the measurement of UNAG, serum IL-6 and serum HS-CRP and assess their relation to microalbuminuria as a well established marker of DN.The present study was carried out in Medical Biochemistry and Internal Medicine Departments, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University. Our study included 70 subjects were classified into 3 groups:Group I: including 20 apparently healthy volunteers.Group II: including 20 type 2 diabetic patients without complications.Group III: including 30 diabetic patients with early DN.All subjects of the study were subjected to:• Full history and clinical examination.• Routine laboratory investigations: including renal functions, liver functions, urine analysis and complete blood picture.• Research investigations:- Determination of urinary microalbumin .- Determination of urinary NAG- Determination of serum HS-CRP.- Determination of serum IL-6.The urinary microalbumin and UNAG concentrations were calculated in terms of their ratios with respect to creatinine concentration to reduce the spread of data points by minimizing the variation related to volume or time.
