Abstract:
In medicine, the hygiene hypothesis states that a lack of early childhood exposure to infectious agents and parasites increases susceptibility to allergic and autoimmune diseases by modulating immune system development.Helminthic therapy has emerged from extensive research indicating a probable connection between a reduction in parasitic worms in industrialized societies to a significant and sustained increase in autoimmune and allergic diseases. Conversely, the prevalence of these diseases are relatively low in lesser developed countries.
