Abstract:
Hematopoietic stern cell transplantation (HSCT) involves the intravenous infusion of autologous or allogeneic stem cells collected from bone marrow, peripheral blood, or umbilical cord blood to reestablish Hematopoietic function in patients with damaged or defective bone marrow or immune systems.HSCT related complications can be classified as early and late effects. Early effects include mucositis, acute graft versus host disease (GVHD), veno-occlusive disease, transplantation-related lung injury and transplantation-related infections. Late effects include chronic (GVHD), ocular complications, endocrine complications pulmonary complications, musculoskeletal complications, neurocognitive and neuropsychological complications and Immune complications.Graft versus host disease is a common complication of allogeneic transplantation. It is an immune response of donor T lymphocytes against host cells. The skin, gastrointestinal tract, and liver are the organs typically involved. HLA mismatch and myeloablative coditiioing regimens are important factors.
