Abstract:
the ratio means a pure number consisting of one element level overother element level . Most of ratios are often more important indetermining any mean than element level alone .The importance of ratios includes that ; they are more importantthan level ,they represent homeostatic balance . They are indicative ofdisease trends . They may be diagnostic or may be predictive of futuredysfunctions or hidden dysfunctions .The following ratios are the most important and prevalent forevaluation purpose:Lactate /Pyruvate ratio : a good marker of cell ischemia this ratioincreases during ischemia (inadequate supply of blood) there is a fall inthe supply of oxygen and glucose .Free PSA/ total PSA : the ratio of free/total PSA IS an earlyindicator of the degree of aggressiveness of the cancer.Apo B/ Apo A I ratio :is significantly associated with insulinresistance in non diabetic subjects this ratio may explain the increasedcardiovascular disease risk associated with insulin resistance andunderscore the need to implement apoB/apoA-1 in future clinicalguidelines.
