Trauma remains the fourth leading cause of death in western societies, and the leading cause of death in the first four decades of life .Blunt trauma occurs in more than 80% of trauma patients.The incidence of abdominal trauma increases each year. Blunt abdominal trauma generally leads to higher mortality rates than penetrating wounds & presents greater problems in diagnosis.In civilian life, the majority of abdominal injuries are due to blunt trauma secondary to high-speed automobile accidents.
