Abstract:
The use of ST or STG for ACL reconstruction offers good clinical results and we did not find important differences with the final outcome. However, isokinetic tests did reveal internal rotation weakness in the ST group. This finding and its effects on specific sports activities should be further investigated. In the meantime, since we have seen no additional benefit when sacrificing the gracilis, we recommend that only 1 tendon be used whenever possible. The success of ACL reconstruction is influenced by many factors including the timing of surgery, graft selection, graft placement, graft tensioning, graft fixation, and post operative rehabilitation program.
