Abstract:
The utilization of a hand port may allow less experienced laparoscopic surgeons to tackle this daunting procedure. Furthermore, in cases of cancer colon, the surgeon may feel more comfortable dissecting the fragile colon using a hand rather than small laparoscopic graspers. The hand assisted approach has become the preferred method for performing a colectomy, for cancer colon as morbidity and mortality rates should not exceed that of open surgery and other benefits such as better patients well being and decreased postoperative narcortic use, earlier return of bowel function and shorter length of stay must be demonstrated..
