Abstract:
The antisense oligonucleotides are a synthetic short single stranded oligonucleotide, which hybridizes with the complementary mRNA in a sequence-specific manner via Watson-Crick base pairing. This antisense oligonucleotide-mRNA heteroduplex inhibits the translation of protein by several putative mechanisms.Antisense inhibition of a disease gene utilizes knowledge of the DNA sequence of the target disease gene to create a molecule that will specifically block the translation of that gene into protein. The aim of all antisense therapeutic approaches is to reduce the quantity of the target protein and reverse or prevent the disease process.Antisense drugs are a promising technique for the treatment of some skin diseases, as viral infections, bacterial infections, allergic skin diseases, pigmented skin diseases, alopecia, inflammatory skin diseases as psoriasis, autoimmune skin diseases as systemic lupus erythematosus, wound healing and cancer skin diseases as malignant melanoma and merkel cell carcinoma.
