Abstract:
The aim of this study was to evaluate feasibility, efficacy, and complications of laparoscopic repair of recurrent inguinal hernias. This study was carried out on 15 patients with recurrent inguinal hernia. Every patient was subjected to complete history taking, thorough clinical examination, routine investigations, and laparoscopic hernia repair. The trans-abdominal approach with preperitoneal placement of the mesh (TAPP) was performed for all patients. Immediate and late follow up was conducted. The results of this study were categorized into preliminary data and laparoscopic findings with postoperative follow up data. At the time of laparoscopy, 5 inguinal hernias (33.3 %) were diagnosed as direct, while 10 hernias (66.7 %) were diagnosed as indirect; these findings were in accordance to the clinical examination. In one patient, the inferior epigastric artery was injured during the fashioning of peritoneal faps and was readily controlled by clipping. No intra-abdominal visceral injuries had occurred.
