Abstract:
Attention – deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a heterogeneous behavioral disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.DH is an enzyme responsible for the conversion of dopamine into noradrenaline, alteration of the dopamine / nordrenaline levels can result in hyperactivity. Methods:We studied 60 children and adolescents, all of them completed a validated questionnaire Conners’ Rating Scale- Revised: Short Arabic Version (CRS-R: S-A), psychometric, EEG and audiological investigations (measurement of plasma catecholamines / serum DH, 5-HIAA in 24 hour urine volume), measurement of serum lipids and thyroid function tests assessment was done. Results:We found: 1) CRS-R: S-A mean scores are significantly correlated with psychosocial, demographic factors of the ADHD group, also, was affected by EEG disorders, IQ ratios and CAPD. 2) CRS – R: S –A scores were significantly correlated changes in monoamines values as follows: CRS –R: S-A scores were higher with lower adrenaline, noradrenaline, and DH levels, in contrast, CRS –R: S-A scores were significantly lower with higher dopamine values, 5- HIAA in 24 hour urine volume levels..
