Abstract:
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) of B-cell origin is the most frequent type of leukemia characterized by an accumulation of clonal malignant B cells, it is possible that proliferation and survival of these malignant clone is facilitated by a disruption in the interaction between B and T cells that regulate the immune system. B-CLL cells don’t induce a clinically relevant immune response. The total tumor burden tends to expand at variable speed without any apparent reaction of the immune system against the tumor. The aim of this work is to investigate the regulation of CD40 ligand expression in patients with B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia and correlate it with clinical and laboratory disease status.
