Summary:- The use of ozone for industrial applications has received a wide acceptance while its use in medicine remains controversial. The effect of ozone therapy can be attributed to the repeated acute oxidative stress that cause up-regulation of antioxidant enzymes, appearance of oxidative stress proteins and probable release of stem cells. The oxidative stress must be adequate to activate physiological mechanisms, but not excessive to cause damage. Ozone is being used to treat a broad range of different diseases, although never as first-line therapy.
