Abstract:
HSCT was undoubtedly one of the most important medical advances in the second half of the 20th century. Worldwide, approximately 30,000-40,000 transplantations are performed yearly, and the number continues to increase by 10-20% each year. More than 20,000 people have now survived 5 years or longer after HSCT.The aim of our program in pediatric department of Zagazig university hospital is to provide stem cell transplantation as a treatment option for a variety of acquired and congenital, malignant and non malignant disorders of children. This program gives our children the chance to be transplanted in their community and beside their emotional support systems.The steps of our program include:1- Decision of transplantation.2- Donor decision (choosing a suitable donor).3- Transplant types.4- Transplant sources.5- Pretransplant evaluation of the patient and donor.6- Conditioning regimens.7- Bone marrow collection.8- Transplant day.9- Follow up after transplantation:• Standard prophylactic plan.• Standard therapeutic plan.• Monitoring of engraftment.• Monitoring and analysis of chimerism.• Discharge and follow up in outpatient clinic.10- Extensions and Hopes.
