Abstract:
The present study aimed at the assessment of nutritional status of children with malignancy and determination if the type of the tumor and aggressiveness of chemotherapy have any influence on nutritional status. Also it aimed at determination of the relationship between the nutritional status and outcome of therapy for those children.The study was carried out on 40 newly diagnosed cases of pediatric malignancies at Hematology and Oncology Unit of Pediatric and Clinical Pathology Departments, in Zagazig University Hospital from December 2006 till January 2008.The study included both sex (23males+17females) with age range from 7months to13 years.All patients included in the study were subjected to:-1-Full medical history as regard different symptoms of malnutrition.2-Full medical examination with special emphasis on anthropometric parameters (WFA, HFA, WFH, BMI, MUAC, TSFT and MAMC).3-Laboratory investigations including hematological parameters (Hb level and S.Fe) and biochemical parameters (TP and S.alb).The anthropometric, hematological, and biochemical parameters were measured at the time of diagnosis and repeated after 1, 3, 5 and 7 months from start of chemotherapy..
