Abstract:
Until the age of interventional cardiology, when transcatheter device development exploded, the idea of percutaneous repair, then replacement of a cardiac valve, did not appear realizable. However, with the development of the balloon catheter with variant designs successfully applied to the dilation of stenotic valves then the advent of the vascular metal stent in all its forms with the notion that stent could be a scalable delivery platform for valves it was immediately apparent to researchers that this field can be redirected in a new way to address a wide range of patients with valvular heart diseases who are not ideal surgical candidates but who likely would benefit from this technology.Percutaneous valve repair and replacement include:Percutaneous mitral valve repair.Percutaneous aortic valve replacement.Percutaneous pulmoanry valve replacement.
