Abstract:
Placenta accreta occurs when there is a defect of the decidua basalis resulting in abnormally invasive implantation of the placenta. The resultant incomplete separation of the placenta may lead to massive hemorrhage. The factors involving the development of placenta accreta are still unknown, however recent data concerning pathogenesis of placenta accrete suggest that the participation of up-regulated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and down-regulated VEGFR-2 (both membrane-bound and soluble forms) may be associated with the development of placenta accreta.
