Abstract:
AbstractPilonidal sinus disease is a common entity that usually affects young adults and most commonly occurs in the natal cleft about 4-8 cm behind the anus . There are many theories discussing the etiology of the disease but the acquired theory is the most accepted one. It attributes the development of the disease to the penetration of the skin at the natal cleft by hairs. These penetrating hairs cause foreign body granuloma and sinus formation. The friction of the buttocks and deep natal cleft are main predisposing factors for this hair penetration and sinus formation
