Abstract:
The aim of this work is to study the effect of total thyroidectomy versus subtotal thyroidectomy on the improvement of exophthalmos in patients suffering from Graves’ disease based upon the level of thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibodies level in patient’s serum after total thyroidectomy.Patients and Methods: This study included all Graves’ diseased patients who attended to the out-patient clinic of surgical department of Zagazig University Hospitals during the period between August 2003 and April 2006. All patients were suffering from Graves’ disease with exophthalmos of different degrees. In diagnosis of Graves’ disease many laboratorily and radiologically criteria were considered.
