, the aim of this work was to: - Study chronic hepatotoxic effects of valproate and carbamazepine in adult epileptic patients of both sexes by measuring glutathione peroxidase, alkaline phosphatase, prothrombin time, and α-fetoptotein in correlation to antiepileptic drug level.2- Study chronic hepatotoxic effects of valproate and carbamazepine in white albino rats of both sexes by measuring glutathione peroxidase, alkaline phosphatase, prothrombin time, and histopathological examination of liver specimen and cell proliferation by Silver stained Nucleolar Organizer Regions (Ag NORs stains 3-valuate the protective role of melatonin as an antioxidant against hepatotoxic effects in epileptic patients and albino rats.
