Abstract:
Otosclerosis is one of the most causes of hearing impairment among cauasian adults characterized by abnormal bone homeostasis of the otic capsule leading to bony fixation of the stapedial footplate in the oval window causing conductive hearing impairment in about 10% of cases the disease extends to the inner ear producing asensorineural or mixed hearing impairment.It is caused mainly by genetic or viral causes & diagnosed by combination of history taking, audiolgocial evaluation, CT temporal bone.Many lines of treatment are used – hearing aid for advanced cases, the only hearing ear or if patient refuse surgery – stapedectomy which doesn’t treat vertigo or sensory component of hearing loss so stapedotomy done which is removal of portain of stapes and replacement with aprosthesis either micro traumatic or laser with its & types – Co2 laser stapedotmy – KTP laser stapedotomy.
