Abstract:
This study was carried out to study some predictors for development of complications inside respiratory intensive care unit (RICU). For this purpose 106 patients were selected from patients admitted at the ICU of Respiratory Department, Zagazig University Hospitals. They were classified according to development of complications into two equal groups ; there were no statistical significance between both groups as regards age , sex, body mass index(BMI) ,presence or absence of comorbid conditions . Group I: They developed complications. They were 53patients; 33 males and 20 females with a mean age of 58.4±16.6 years. Group II: They had not any complications. They were 53patients; 34 males and 19 females with a mean age of 58.2±12.7 years.Forty nine patients among the studied groups received mechanical ventilation while the remaining 57 patients received only medical and conservative treatment .On admission to ICU the followings were carried out for all patients:(1) Full medical history from the patient (if possible) or his relatives.(2) Full clinical examination: (General & local chest examination).(3) Plain chest and heart X – ray, CT chest and duplex study when needed.(4) Arterial blood gases analysis.(5) Laboratory investigations (on admission):a- Serum electrolytes (Na, K, Mg, ph).
